Why I was disappointed with AMERICA?

Thursday night and I'm here in my room. As usual, after work I can't think of anything to do but to just turn on my tv. I'm alone so I can just watch anything. And so I bumped into STAR MOVIES on Skycable. I wasn't able to see the beginning of the show but maybe it's the story that glued me into the channel.

Ok, now here's what I'm talking about. It's a story or actually a documentary made by the ever famous Michael Moore, and he's talking about how the Medical Benefits and Expenses in the US, different from the countries like UK, Canada, France and even the "so-called EVIL COUNTRY CUBA".

As my eyes got stucked into the story and listening to Michael Moore's comparison of the Health Benefits, it moved me into tears. All I thought is that America is a great country, the most powerful and the wealthiest country in the world. And yet from I saw, I was disappointed that even richness, their wealth doesn't even give good services to it's citizens.

Michael Moore took notice of the Health Services given by the government's of Canada, UK, France and even Cuba. These countries are giving their health services for FREE not just to it's citizens but even tourists received the same treatment.

But what moved me were stories of some americans that weren't given the best treatment from any hospitals in the US. One american mother even shared her own story about losing a child just because hospitals in the US did not bother to treat her 4 year old daughter who's suffering a severe fever. They didn't admit the poor child and didn't even tried to check it's condition until the child passed away.

3 American Heroes were also featured telling how they became heroes in the new world and how they were neglected by the Government. They've help saved the lives of hundreds who were buried when the humungous building collapsed Sept the 11th. These americans suffered different kind of diseases and yet, they never received treatments that should be given by the US Government. Instead the government devoted their time in saving the lives of those responsible for the 9/11 attacks who are prisoners now at the Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

And so Michael Moore decided to bring these heroes including dozens of those US Citizens who were not given the treatment that they deserved in their native land to Cuba whom they called the most evil country in the world. Americans hated cuba because in this country Fidel Castro lives.

Moore wanted to bring these bunch of people inside guantanamo bay where the prisoners named as terrorists were being treated kindly and free of charge. But it was disappointing to know, they... were neglected not even listened to.

And since theyre already in Cuba, they've decided to look for doctors and hospitals who could probably help them with their needs. The people in Cuba welcomed them with all of their hearts and they even brought them to their hospital, it is the HAVANA Hospital in Cuba. They were shocked for when they got inside, all the cubans were treated equally.

Cubans were known for their best doctors and service in health. They were part of the Third World Country just like the Philippines but they sent out doctors to the countries that needs them. Can you imagine that? They may be known as a communist country but theyre the one's giving the best medical services for their people and even to the outsiders.

Americans who were there brought by Moore were not even asked for any Identification as long as they needed treatment, the hospital personnel acted right away. They were treated accordingly. Although they knew that Americans are their enemies and yet they still give out the best service that they could. And best of all, they're giving it for FREE.

In america according to Moore, the most expensive medicine could reach to a thousand dollars but when your going to buy it in Cuba, it only costs a cent of a dollar.

I was moved by Moore's last statement, that in America it is not the Government who served the People, instead it is the People that is afraid and served the people in the government.

I totally understand that these things can't be realized in our country the Philippines. Giving FREE Medical Services is BIG NO I guess for our politicians. Look at our leaders, VERY DISAPPOINTING! They even have to make long discussions and long debates just to approve a BILL that will help make the medicines a bit cheaper. Because I know, they have their own personal reason.

Our leaders today, doesnt think of things that will help lessen the burdens of it's citizens. What they only think is how to get money while in the government. Our politicians today are NOT REALLY SERIOUS in helping out the people. What they want is POPULARITY. All they want is to debate on TV for the people to know that they're good in debating. All they want is to investigate not knowing that they are now forgetting and neglecting the needs of the Filipinos.

Is this how they should be?

Just weeks ago, I was hospitalized. I stayed in the hospital for 1 week. I know in a weeks time I could spend thousands of pesos. The biggest would be for the medicines, secondary would be the hospital room, and even the doctor that treated me asked a big amount of money for doctors fee. Well, this is how our country runs.

What about those poor people who can't afford to buy even just 1 aspilet? Are we just gonna leave them die when they get sick? It does usually happen, because these poor families are now afraid to go to the hospital because of the expenses? Try to imagine the doctors fee? That alone, could be the reason why they're afraid to go to the doctor.

Going back to Moore's documentary. In the UK, they started giving out FREE Medical Services since 1948. Imagine how many decades have passed and yet they're still giving it for FREE to those who need medical attention. They even give out reimbursements to the people who have to go home after they were hospitalized. In UK, the patients were the one's paid by the government. Isn't that NICE? The doctors doesn't worry about not getting money from their patients. The doctors were even paid a bit higher when their patients goes well and never return with the same illness. That's why they have to treat their patients well.

In FRANCE, the government even have to employ doctors who will go to different houses during the time that people need them and all you have to do is dial a certain number and in just half an hour the doctor is in your doorstep already. And what's best? They're giving it FOR FREE...

In CUBA, people there doesnt worry about their hospital bills because it is their government who shoulder them and best of all, they were treated like their parents were the one's taking care of them.

Here in the Philippines, you will NEVER EVER GET the best treatment from DOCTORS if you can't show them money. That's the saddest part of it!

When will our government take notice of this? When will our Doctors and medical personnel give out their best treatment to their patients?

We all are passengers in one ship. And if this ship perish, we will certainly be swimming altogether hand in hand. But we shouldnt wait for the ship to perish, we should act now and help each other.

one of the best blogs i've ever read.

The story of the Cubans is just like the Good Samaritan wherein the samaritan helped the guy without judging the person, whether he's an enemy or not.He clothed the poor guy, give him food and give him a room to stay and paid all the bills without asking for anything.

If only our government would support this kind of movement then it would be helpful for those people especially the poor who can't even afford to buy a medicine. No matter who the president we have, for as long as corruption exists, our country will never be progressive.

So as Filipino citizens, we should treat each other equally no matter what aborigines we've came from and respect our differences and lastly help one another.
